The Singapore Welding Society (SWS) was established in July 1977 and is a member of the International Institute of Welding (IIW) and Asian Welding Federation (AWF). Over the past years, the Society has been actively promoting and contributing to welding technology, safety, quality, and productivity to the various industries in Singapore with the following objectives: • To collaborate with industries, trade associations, professional organisations, research and educational institutions on joint projects involving welding, joining and related technologies. • To promote the advancement of welding, joining and related technologies through industry forums, seminars, and workshops. • To adopt common guidelines on education, training, and qualification system so as to provide welding industry with qualified and skilled personnel. • To participate in the regional and international activities. • To represent the interests of our members by promoting welding, joining and related technologies to all industries. The International Institute of Welding (IIW) was founded in 1948 by the welding institutes/societies of 13 countries who considered it crucial to make more rapid scientific and technical progress possible on a global level. The IIW’s Mission is to advance welding and joining through a worldwide network acting as the leading global community linking industry, research and education to the advancement of joining for a safer and sustainable world. The organisation's technical focus encompasses the joining, cutting and surface treatment of metallic and non metallic materials by such processes as welding, additive manufacturing, brazing, soldering, thermal cutting and spraying, adhesive bonding and micro-joining. The members of the IIW community, through the work of IIW's 20 Working Units, exchange information and develop scientific work, global best practices and standards assisting industry, research and training institutions to make the best use of welding and allied technologies.
